Local food may be great in theory, but in practice you need a whole mess of cooperating factors to make it work. Factor numero uno – the weather. In growing season 2009 in our region, the weather did not even remotely cooperate and it would be an understatement to say it was the growing season from hell that most farmers are pretty happy is over.
